The 786th Force Support Squadron post office has a way to sort letter-mail more efficiently, allowing its customers to receive mail faster.
Each box number is now affiliated with a special four digit extension code that allows postal staff to sort through mail quicker.
Service members or any Ramstein personnel that have a mailbox at the North or Southside post offices may add the special designated extension code, after the standard zip code that is synonymous with all Ramstein personnel.
“If everyone on the base uses the extension code, it would make all first class letters come in order, which saves approximately two hours of sorting time,” said Airman 1st Class Dilan Harvey, 786th FSS military postal clerk.
There are certain periods during the year that postal staff highly recommend customers use the extension code.
Harvey said the benefits of the four digit extension code are really apparent during Christmas, when the post office is handling thousands of letters.
Customers who would like to know their four digit extension code can visit or call 786th FSS customer service.
